apples, pumpkins and corn, oh my!

It’s that time of year, kids! Where we pick apples and visit the pumpkin patch and go hog wild! Or is it?

Our annual apple picking experience started out OK. I left on time, phew. Had time to grab Starbucks before my hour drive, and directions printed and in hand. All went well until I thought I’d passed the road I needed to get to Ziegler’s Orchard. I turned around on more than one occasion, called my mom for assistance and then my dad. It was not a good way to start the day.

earl reds

I cast on the Yarn Harlot’s Earl Grey socks in a bright red color. They are coming along beautifully and progress has been great. Already on the gussets of the first sock, all in one day. Speed knitting, perhaps? Dedicated time to watch Disney flicks (at least in the morning) before running out for errands?

I discovered my local Sunflower Market. Similar to Trader Joe’s, the store offers a variety of wines, gourmet foods and other lost treasures. Here’s a roundup of store perks:

kitchen facelift

My kitchen counter setup has really been bothering me. I wasn’t sure what it was but I knew something just wasn’t right. It was really frustrating me too because things felt awkward when I’d work in there.

Tired of battling the space issue (see above), I finally brought over my toaster oven from my mom’s place. I had been battling whether or not I really wanted the big enormous thing lying around and taking up my valuable counter space.

apocalypse knitting

Last night I watched Apocalypse Now, since its on the AFI 100 list. I was a little afraid to see it because I knew it was violent. Well, it definitely didn’t disappoint in that, however, it was a very well-filmed movie. Not at all something I would ever watch frequently; and I can confidently say I won’t see this again. It was a lot for me to watch, and I watched it alone!

snow white update, finally

I’ve been promising this for ages, so finally, here it is: The Snow White Update! As you can see, much progress has occurred. I’ve lain it out similarly to how it will be joined to create an actual sweater, not two opera arms and a tube top (although that might be stylish in some circles). I’m 14 rows shy on the second arm until I can begin joining the body and arms. That will be tomorrow’s joyous activity.

lesson of the day: bike seats hurt

I went on a bike ride today with Nittany’s Shenanigans and boy did my butt experience a beating. I’ve forgotten how painful that hard seat is. But it was worth it because the bike ride was super fun!

Here I am with my tripped out bike. Check out the awesome baskets I got! It held our cooler and my backpack. The only thing, I kind of kicked it a few times. Woops!

when in need, call your knitting friend

My friend Christine needed some much overdue sock knitting assistance. Of course, I was available to help. We trekked over to an LYS (specifically Arcadia Knitting) to pick up the needed materials. So what are they having? Oh yeah, a sale. Great! I have to take advantage of that. And did I ever!

reminiscing: girl scout songs

This week I was thinking about my Girl Scout Camp days and all the fun songs we used to sing. Some of the lyrics I remembered, but others were just bits and pieces. I spent some time hunting down the lyrics to some of my faves and collected them here. Let me hear a rah-rah-rah from my Girl Scout buddies out there. These are some classics!
