a trip down the rabbit hole

Today was quite a day of surprises. What started with a bad headache, turned out to be a pretty enjoyable day. I had a rendezvous at foodlife, a Lettuce Entertain You restaurant setup as a cafeteria of a number of kitchens where you can choose what you want to eat as much as you want. I had delicious roast chicken and mashed potatoes. (I know it was the Great American Meatout, but it was a special occasion. I will try to observe the Meatout today instead.)

tuna salad recipe

I came across this recipe when I was in search of a great tuna salad recipe. I was hankering for a tuna melt sandwich like no other. I really loved it, but of course, made a few modifications. The most noticeable will be the substitution of onion flakes and garlic powder for the real thing. I always like real over fake. Who wants fake?

books of 2010—the penny pinchers club

Last week, I finished The Penny Pinchers Club by Sarah Strohmeyer. I was surprised by how much I liked this book. I initially thought the book would highlight penny-pinching techniques, but the main plot surrounding a married couple became far more intriguing. The story was easy to read and interesting; the author opened with a flash forward, offering the reader a nugget of what was to come. The technique definitely encouraged me to read the story quickly. Oh and I did pick up a few penny pinching ideas too!

progress update: stash afghan

Late update on the Stash Afghan. Not much work has been done on it, other than a row here and there. Until next month!
