Green bird shirt outfit

I sported this new outfit last week! I don’t own a lot of green, despite my red hair, but I couldn’t walk away from this shirt. It’s got birds on it! It’s technically a dress, but I see myself wearing capris or pants underneath. I wore white jean capris (not pictured) with this outfit. I also got the belt, which I think completed the top portion of the outfit.

the indian wedding extravaganza: a journey of fashion, culture and friendship

A few weeks ago, my good friend from middle school got married. True to Indian culture, her nuptials included a variety of events over a four-day period to celebrate the marriage and union of two families. Being an old friend, I got the privilege of participating in these events. Over the course of the four days, there was:

regular versus matte finish

Regular versus matte nail polish

I’m talking nails. That’s right. I discovered that Essie makes a matte finish top coat called Matte About You, and I thought I’d experiment with it. My right hand is freshly painted with the blue nail color, displaying a normal nail polish finish. The left hand has the matte top coat applied. The picture isn’t great (you have no idea how hard it is to take a picture of both your hands. Imagine my chin positioned to press the shutter button on my phone), but you can see a slight light reflection in the nails on the right hand that you don’t see on the left. The matte top coat creates a dull, cool finish over the color of your choice.  I wouldn’t choose to use it every day, but it was fun to play with.

gray is a main theme

I recently got some new clothes. Actually these are new clothes over the last few months, yet haven’t blogged about it. What I noticed when collecting these, I’ve bought a lot of gray. Gray is a little less harsh than black against my very pale skin. So when employing black (you know, because it’s slimming), you add a touch of gray to soften the look. So take a look at my latest purchases;

triple knot hairstyle

I experimented with a new up-do this weekend from a Real Simple article I came across. It involves three ponytails that are twisted at the base of your hairline to create a elaborate do with little effort.

Here’s how you do it:

Comb hair back, divide into three sections, and create three low ponytails at the hairline. One at a time, twist each ponytail length and wrap the hair around the base of the tail, creating small buns. Secure with bobby pins and set with hair spray

My mom brought me this new skirt so I had to craft a new outfit around it.

A top I got from H&M a few weeks ago for $5.

A shirt from the Warren Dunes.

A shrug from Old Navy; this is to replace some of my shrugs that really have seen better days.

teal bender

I almost forgot to post about these beautiful earrings I got in Indianapolis when I went to see the Dalai Lama. Obviously I went on a teal bender on this trip. But I guess that isn’t much of a surprise to anyone since my apartment is decorated in shades of teal and seafoam and I wear a lot of teal. I ♥ teal!

loving the teal

When I went to see the Dalai Lama, there were a number of vendors selling their wears outside the main arena. We got there with enough time to walk around and browse the selections. I fell in love with this teal scarf and “Om” pendant so I had to get them. And they’re both teal. Done deal.
